‘Act of Service’ Day- 26th November, 2022

“This is worship: to serve mankind and to minister to the needs of the people. Service is prayer….”

From the Baha’i Writings

Highly inspired by the overwhelming response and enthusiasm received from our dear students, teachers, and nonetheless our parents who rendered full cooperation to make ‘Act of Service Day’ a memorable day on 24th December, 2022 (one year ago), this year also, once again, the school decided to offer one day for direct service to humanity on 26th November, 2022, in remembrance of service to humankind championed by Abdu’l Baha (Central figure of the Baha’i Faith).

We have experienced that such exalted acts awake high noble sentiments among our students towards suffering humanity.

This very special day started with a short inauguration programme where through songs and dances the importance of service to mankind was remarkably conveyed. It served as an inspiration for joining in the act of service joyfully. It was followed by engagement of all the students ranging from Grade 1 to 10 along with the teachers in cleaning the school campus and around 50 metre long stretch of road in front of the school. This act generated a great deal of zeal and excitement, especially among junior students.

Proceeding to the next phase of the Service Act, as per the plan, the students along with their teachers spread all around the Udaipur town- Some students went to the surrounding village, some went to two brick industries, Chandrapur; some went to an orphanage home, Amtali; some went to an old age home, Sadhana Dayamoy Sevashram and some went to the sub-division hospital. They spent their quality time with the people, trying to understand their struggles and needs. Books, pens, pencils, erasers, and sharpeners were given to the children of poor families in the neighbourhood community. Old clothes were distributed among the labourers and their families at the brick industries. Blankets were given to the needy people in various areas of the town and in the old age home. Bed sheets, pillow covers and fruits were given to the orphans in the children’s home. Fruits were distributed to patients, doctors, nurses and other staff of the subdivision hospital.

The day ended by serving ‘Hotchpotch’ to all the students and school staff. Each one of them had something to say about their experience and learning when asked. Joining of some parents and their profound experience were another feature of the programme. Indeed, without the magnanimity shown by the parents through their cash and kind support, this programme would not have reached a glorious height.
